Monthly/Weekly Challenges

Pick a Number Reading Challenge

Hey Ya’ll!

So if you saw yesterday’s post you might have read that I basically created myself a monthly reading challenge. This challenge is a combination of Bookopoly and “My Family Member picks my TBR”. Basically I’ve created a list of challenges, and every month I pick (usually 2) family members to pick 3 numbers between one and thirty, which will correlate to various challenges to frame my TBR around.

For me, choosing by challenge rather than giving myself strict book choices to read from is a LOT less pressure and I think will ultimately lead to me reading more. The purpose of this post is basically just to tell you guys about this challenge, and to list out the challenges I’m using each month in case it might help you guys to read more.

The Challenges

  1. Read a library book
  2. Read a book recently recommended on Youtube
  3. Read an adult fantasy
  4. Read a young adult fantasy
  5. Read an OG TBR book
  6. Read a book that will make you cry
  7. Read a paranormal book
  8. Read a book you’ve been intentionally putting off
  9. TBR jar pick
  10. Read a mystery/thriller
  11. Read your most recent purchase
  12. Read the next book in your most recently read series
  13. Read a historical fiction
  14. Read a book over 500 pages
  15. Reread an old favorite
  16. Read a book under 300 pages
  17. Read a sci-fi
  18. Read an ARC
  19. Read a horror book
  20. Read a new to you author
  21. Read a book that no one on youtube talks about
  22. Read a super hyped book
  23. Read a sequel
  24. Read a self pubbed book
  25. Read an epic fantasy
  26. Read a stabby book
  27. Read a physical book
  28. Read book #1 of a new series
  29. Read a book that’s been adapted (then watch the adaptation)
  30. Read a 5 star prediction

As this is supposed to PROMOTE me reading, if I’m really not feeling a challenge (say, I get a genre I’m not feeling) I’ll try to double up on another challenge that was chosen. For example, last month I didn’t feel like a historical fiction so I doubled up on the “read a physical book” challenge.

I don’t claim that these challenges are super original,  like I said this is a combination of a couple pre-existing challenges from various youtubers and readathons, but this has just made reading a lot of fun. I want to create a spread in my bullet journal tracking whether or not I’ve completed the challenges to have it to look back on eventually. I think it would be cool to see how I did throughout the year.

Thank you all so much for reading. 🙂 Will you utilize this idea yourself? Do you have something similar to this that you follow? Do you have any additional challenge ideas I can add to this list? Maybe a cool idea instead of doubling up would be alternate challenges. Let me know below! I’ll see you all on my next post. 🙂
